Mattson Family2/2/2008

To Whom it May Concern:

I live in Australia now and have done so for the past 17 years.   I was browsing the net and called up Western Springs and found the name Alf Mattson who was a cousin of my father Stan (Tom) Mattson.   Alf and my father Stan used to race together at Western Springs, Alf being the famous one J.   I can remember very vividly sitting on the embankment as a young one smelling the smell of cinders and trying not to go to sleep.   Do you have anything at all with my Dad’s name in any of the races.  I am now 62 so it would be about 1950 or so I guess.   Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for the memories which really came flooding back to me.   Would love you hear from you.            Kind regards,    Coralie Gilmour (nee Mattson)

Hello Coralie,

Thank you for your note.  Yes the Mattson name is famous in the early years of speedway racing.  Keep watching our website.  We have planned recognition of our speedway icons.  There will be a lot of info in archives of collectors and we will see what we can dig out.  It’s always great to hear from the families of previous competitors.  I don’t know what they are thinking but the council and some residents are trying to shut our precious speedway down.
